In an era marked by rising youth discontent, economic frustration, and calls for political reform, Dr. Charles Prempeh Research Fellow at the Centre for Cultural and African Studies at KNUST has launched a timely and thought-provoking book titled Youth Activism in Modern Ghana.
The work, which is already drawing attention among political observers and academic circles, delves into the voices, strategies, and struggles of four prominent young Ghanaian figures shaping the current political landscape.
The book focuses on Kwame Bediako (popularly known as ‘Cheddar’), a business mogul and emerging presidential candidate; Oliver Mawuse Barker-Vormawor, the lead activist behind the #FixTheCountry movement; Ernesto Yeboah, a former student leader known for his vocal civic engagement; and Mahmoud Jajah, a youth organizer and influencer within Ghana's Zongo communities.
Through detailed biographical sketches and critical analysis, Dr. Prempeh captures the pulse of a generation that is increasingly taking to the streets and social media to demand change.
He explores the motivations behind their activism, the structures that shape their messages, and the broader societal implications of a politically restless youth demographic.
The book is expected to be a key resource for students of political science, scholars, and members of the public interested in youth-led democratic participation in Ghana.
With a background that includes a PhD from the University of Cambridge and an MPhil in African Studies from the University of Ghana, Dr. Prempeh brings academic rigor and cultural insight to the pressing questions of political engagement among Ghana’s young population.
